Elijah Wood Gives Up His DNA for Charity

When a celebrity provides a DNA sample, it usually means he's in trouble. But when it comes to Elijah Wood, giving up his genetic material is all for a good cause.

The generally low-key Lord of the Rings actor is donating his DNA to DNA 11, a personalized-art company, to create artwork based on Wood's genetic profile. The piece has been donated to a current eBay auction, with the proceeds going to The Art of Elysium, a charity for children with serious medical conditions.

"I'm really excited to take part in DNA 11's scientific process for creating a unique and original art piece benefiting The Art of Elysium, a charity that I am truly passionate about," Wood said in a statement.
