It took Serena Williams's meltdown at the U.S. Open over the weekend to bring the Hot Topic around to Kate Gosselin – discussing a meltdown of her on own on The View, where she served as a guest co-host Monday.
Until that point, Gosselin had a hard time getting a word in edgewise as the other women – Whoppi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd – dissected such issues as Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift's VMA Award speech and Madonna's self-absorbed tribute to Michael Jackson at the same Sunday-night event.
But then the spotlight turned to Gosselin. Shepherd asked the mother of eight how she handles estranged husband Jon bringing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Hailey Glassman, around their children.
"This is definitely, I'm not going to lie, difficult," replied Gosselin. "The truth, for the sake of my children, I'm going to take the high road" and not discuss the matter further. But she did admit that this past weekend, in the privacy of her home, she suffered "a meltdown."
In response to Behar's question about how she could place her life in front of TV cameras, Gosselin said it was a different story for the first five seasons. Things were "innocent." Now, however, things can't stop, she said – and, as a single mother, she needs the paycheck.
"Do they pay you enough?" asked Behar.
"Is anybody paid enough?" answered Gosselin.
