O'Neal, 24, son of Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, is expected to be moved from the Pitchess Detention Center – where he was already serving time for violating his probation on drug charges – to the Impact Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center in Pasadena, Calif.
The plea was an expected component of his participation in Los Angeles County's drug court. But the sentence carries stiff penalties for O'Neal if he slips up again. Superior Court Judge Graciela Freixes ordered three years of formal probation and a six-year suspended state prison sentence, meaning if O'Neal violates his probation in any way, he could go to prison for up to six years.
On April 5, O'Neal and a friend were visiting the Pitchess facility when sheriff's deputies searched his car and found heroin. O'Neal admitted at the time that the drugs were his, and on Friday he pleaded no contest to possession of an illegal substance in a jail facility and admitted the allegation that he committed the offense while he was out on bail.
