Before a packed house of 1,500 fans and a balcony filled with invited guests, Grammy-winning rock-folk singer Lucinda Williams, said, "I do," to her boyfriend and manager Tom Overby on Friday.

The couple, who have been together for three years, tied the knot onstage at First Avenue, a music club in Minneapolis. The audience was in the dark about the pending nuptials until Williams, at the end of her performance, told the crowd that like country legend Hank Williams, she was going to share her happiness and her wedding with fans. Hank Williams married his second wife onstage in New Orleans.

Lucinda's father, poet Miller Williams, read a poem he'd started writing for his daughter when she was just 11 years old. A pastor in vestments performed the ceremony. After saying their vows and sealing the deal with a kiss, the bride – dressed in knee high black boots and a short black satin dress – performed a song she had written for her groom.

Lucinda Williams, 56, briefly married years ago to a fellow musician, has been involved in several notably tumultuous relationships. In Overby, she has found "a grown up man," says a close friend of the bride. "He is Midwestern, steady and sweet and he loves her to death. He is her keel, he keeps her on course while allowing her to blow with the wind as an artist needs to. It is a great match, and I've never seen her happier or more grounded."

After the wedding, guests walked around the corner to celebrate at a reception attended by nearly 200 family and close friends.
