Betty Draper: style icon of 2009? Mad Men "has had a huge impact," says the show's costume designer Janie Bryant, whose ladylike sheaths and cigarette pants have inspired new designs by Michael Kors and Tory Burch. "The early '60s is that American iconic, classic design." Along with men's suits with narrow lapels and skinny ties, "the show's perfectly put-together looks are extremely refreshing," says Simon Kneen, creative director of Banana Republic, whose Mad Men-themed collection is in stores now. "We all have a sense of nostalgia for that time."

OLD-SCHOOL HAIR

Forget beachy waves! Stars like Eva Longoria Parker (left) are choosing sculpted, more structured coifs for the red carpet. "Retro hair is making a comeback—it epitomizes glamour and femininity," says her hairstylist Ken Paves.

SKINNY TIES

The '60s man "wore collar bars, tie tacks and cuff links—it took effort," says costumer Bryant. An easier update? The skinny tie, which is "a no-fail stylish option for day-to-night," says Banana Republic's Kneen.

DON DRAPER HAIR

"Classic, clean-cut looks never go out of style," says celeb hairstylist Joseph Mullen.

HOURGLASS FIGURES

"It's about accentuating the positive—if you have a small waist, show it off!" says designer Tracy Reese, who featured '60s-style looks at her runway show in N.Y.C. Sept. 14. Fittingly Victoria's Secret is stocking vintage-inspired shapewear this season.
