ON SPLITTING WITH CREED IN 2004
We were really disconnected as friends and artists. It was time for a break. My voice was giving me problems, and the Prednisone I took for the inflammation in my throat had side effects: water-weight gain, depression, withdrawal from the band.
ON HIS ALCOHOL PROBLEMS
Certain things I should have been able to handle, I numbed. When things got tough, I would start drinking and it would be a four- or five-day thing. It came to a point where I was going to lose everything I love in this world. That woke my butt right up. When I stopped drinking in November 2006, I didn't have thoughts of doing anything but staying with my wife [Jaclyn] and kids [Milan, 2, and Jagger, 11]. But I had a lot of work, a lot of proving to do.
ON CUTTING HIS HAIR
It was very impulsive. I got some buzz clippers and started shaving my head. My wife was like, "What are you doing?" I said, "I need you to see me with new eyes. Please try." It was cathartic. I'm just glad I don't have a misshaped head. It could have looked like a watermelon!
