Rachel J. Lee, 19, arrested along with several other women Thursday in a sting operation, is believed to be the mastermind behind recent break-ins at the homes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Audrina Patridge and Orlando Bloom, a source close to the case tells PEOPLE.
Described as having an obsessive fascination with celebrity fashion, Lee and her accomplices easily located the addresses of celebrities using Hollywood star maps and the Internet, and calculated when the stars wouldn't be home based on their appearance schedules.
An LAPD spokeswoman would only say that the investigation into the alleged crimes was ongoing.
Other Starlets, TooIt remains to be seen whether recent burglaries of Rachel Bilson and Hayden Panettiere are linked to this case. Last weekend, Kourtney Kardashian was the latest starlet whose home was broken into.
In each burglary, thousands of dollars in designer clothes, jewelry and bags and other luxury items were taken.
Among those arrested Thursday were Courtney Ames, 18, Diana Tamayo, 19, and Alexis Neirs, 18. Ames and Neirs have since been released on $50,000 bail, police records show. Both Lee and Tamayo were previously arrested July 29 for shoplifting at a Sephora beauty store in the San Fernando Valley, the source says.
The source adds that it wasn't Bloom's possessions Lee and her accomplices were particularly interested in – but rather those of his girlfriend Miranda Kerr.
Lee, an alumni of Indian Hills High School in the upscale neighborhood of Calabasas – and a classmate of fellow suspect Nicholas Prugo, 18, who has been formally charged with the Lohan and Patridge burglaries – could not be reached for comment.
