Though newly minted American Idol winner Kris Allen is basking in the joy of releasing his self-titled debut, there is one thing missing in his life.

"Furniture," the singer, who just moved into a new home in Los Angeles with wife Katy, told PEOPLE at the American Music Awards on Sunday.

"We don't have any furniture in the house yet, but we are trying to find it," he adds, admitting the hunt has been a little difficult. "We don't have time," says Allen of trying to fit in a few furniture shopping moments. "So that's why we are sleeping on a blowup mattress right now."
