Could the TV story of the year be ending with a whimper instead of a bang?

Jon Gosselin turned out to be a no-show Thursday at the Maryland courtroom where he was due to battle it out with TLC over the network's show Jon and Kate Plus 8, according to the Associated Press.

Yet the case moved on without him.

In October, TLC, owned by Discovery Communications, sued the reality dad for violating his contract by allegedly making paid and unpaid TV appearances without the cable network's permission.

Gosselin's attorney, Mark Heller, responded at the time by saying, "Jon will vigorously defend against this baseless action ... and we are confident that through the course of litigation it will clearly be evident that Discovery and TLC exploited, manipulated and abused the Gosselins' vulnerability and financial hardship."

The judge on Thursday reportedly said that Gosselin's legal team does not plan to call any witnesses.

Gosselin, of course, is in the middle of another legal matter – his divorce from wife Kate Gosselin.
