It all started with a scarf.
When Heidi Montag walked into her house Wednesday with her face concealed, police were summoned with a report of a possible kidnapping. But after officers arrived in force – and briefly detained one of husband Spencer Pratt's employees – the misunderstanding was all cleared up.
"We're grateful this was only a false alarm and I just had my pink Hermes scarf over me," Montag tells PEOPLE exclusively. "A neighbor was concerned and called the police. We're thankful to the LAPD for their response and making sure we were safe."
