"[Grace] really has me at hero status right now," Hasselbeck tells PEOPLE. "Every time we go skating she tells me to practice. She thinks I’m in the competition so hopefully she won’t be disappointed that I'll be in heels [and] not ice skates."
Although Hasselbeck, 32, admits to being terrible at ice-skating, The View cohost says that she and her family are huge fans of the sport.
"[My family] was devoted to the Olympics," says the mom of three, including sons Taylor, 2, and Isaiah, 7 months. "Every day my daughter would come home and ask for the figure skaters. She is a loyalist."
One of the most moving moments of the 2010 Winter Olympics for Hasselbeck and her brood was watching the courage of Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette, who performed the women’s short program just two days after her mother tragically passed away after a heart attack.
Rochette will skate an emotional tribute performance to her mother Therese on the March 19 episode.
"What a chance to see something like that again with Thin Ice, says Hasselbeck. "To capture that moment and have another dedication to her mom is truly a gift."
