Niecy Nash, who had a small part in The Proposal, tells PEOPLE she is hopeful that Sandra Bullock can find some measure of strength through the adversity of her husband's alleged infidelity.

"I believe that the things that don't kill you make you a stronger and better person," says the actress. "My prayer for her would be that she doesn't stop loving. Don't ever stop believing in love, because it's real, and even though you may have had a tough time with it, hang in there."

Nash, 40, who this season is a contestant on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, got divorced from her husband, Don Nash, in 2007 after more than a decade together. They have three children.

"Going through any sort of challenge in your relationship is hard, and when you have to do it in a public forum, it's even harder," she says. "My heart goes out to her, because it's a very hard thing to weather, especially in the public eye."

Nash adds that while people are "resilient" and many relationships survive infidelity and hard times, those decisions are always private – and separate from the prayers and well wishes of friends.

"There are a lot of people weighing in, but you have to remember that anyone weighing in is not living your life," she says. "When you go home and close the door, that's you and that man or you and that woman."
