"Their parting is mutual, it's just that someone had to actually do the filing," the friend says. "Also, they both support themselves – Bob is the host of the Daily Show GSN Live – so there is no need for one to give money to the other going forward."
In fact, that she filed for divorce and the documents show she's asking the court deny him spousal support doesn't mean the decision to end their marriage of five years was one-sided. (Neither Guiney nor Budig was immediately available for comment.)
"It's a highly unusual split," the friend adds. "They are a part of each other's every day lives, but they're no longer a couple. It's kind of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Rebecca is even still close with Bob's family. It's one of those situations where the romance has gone but they can't totally let go because they are best friends."
As for moving on, it seems neither Guiney nor Budig is in any hurry to jump back into the dating scene. "They talk every day. They go out to eat," the pal says. "Their dog lives with Bob at his new place. She lives in the L.A. home they shared during their marriage but is over there to see Bob and their lab all the time."
