"There was a guy [who] had a tattoo of me on his arm!" the comedian, still astonished from the encounter, says with a laugh. "It was my face, a picture of me, inside the mouth of a serpent. I remember, because I signed his book, 'You clearly think things through!' "
Silverman's memoir, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee (four out of five stars, according to Amazon's reader ratings), is allowing the star, 39, success in a new field, the world of letters – and ascension to the bestseller list.
"I can't believe it!" she told PEOPLE at Thursday's 944 and Absolut-sponsored book launch at West Hollywood's the Trousdale, which was also attended by Sacha Baron Cohen, Josh Groban, Topher Grace, Seth MacFarlane, Jack McBrayer and Silverman's boyfriend, Alec Sulkin. "I tried to take in the moment, and really feel it, and the first thing that I did was e-mail my mom, my dad and my step mom, and then I just squeezed my boyfriend's hand, and we just smiled together."
And even though not every fan goes so far as to have her image inked on his torso, Silverman says, "At book signings it's just fun to meet … and talk to people with the only common denominator between them is the fact that they all like me. How could I not like that?"
