>• As the TV season concludes in May, these three wrap-ups already have me on the edge of my seat.
AMERICAN IDOL
The May 26 conclusion of FOX's show-that-still-pretty-much-rules-the-universe won't be remembered for its winner-this group has been the Lullabye League-but for judge Simon Cowell's swan song. After nine seasons he's leaving to host a new show. An Idol without his blunt, rock-solid integrity seems inconceivable. Who to replace him? Oh, I know-Spencer Pratt!
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
The ABC hit is winded after six seasons-how stupid was that plane crash?-but somehow the breathless melodrama always wins out. The May 16 finale brings closure to on-the-lam Angie (Drea de Matteo).
THE GOOD WIFE
Will lawyer Julianna Margulies, married to a charismatic political creep (Chris Noth), embark on a fling with colleague Josh Charles? I'm betting the May 25 ender of CBS' freshman hit, a terrific exploration of how sex and politics collude and collide, will deliver the goods.
