The group – there to celebrate a birthday – ordered up several family-style dishes and chatted the night away. An onlooker tells PEOPLE that Grenier, dressed casually cool in jeans and a jacket, was "in a great mood."

The Oscar winner stopped in at SET in South Beach Saturday night, where he sipped 901 tequila and Belvedere on the rocks while watching a fashion show. Later, he turned up at nearby WALL in the W Hotel, where he stayed until 3 a.m. "He sat in a corner booth, talking to the DJ and a variety of others who walked by," a witness tells PEOPLE. The actor also found time to make an appearance at Coco de Ville.

A source tells PEOPLE Cowell was "very nice to guests," and even let some take pictures with him.
