Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, may be still feeling the embarrassment of being caught on tape attempting to sell access to her former husband Prince Andrew. But a new report in the U.K.'s Daily Mirror suggests that her ex has already moved on – and is ready to forgive.

According to the frontpage story the exes, both 50, had a heart-to-heart. The paper also claims that Prince Andrew will not kick her out of her mansion in Windsor, just west of London, where he's given her a home for nearly two years.

When reached by PEOPLE, neither Fergie's spokeswoman nor Buckingham Palace had any comment on the Mirror's report.

In a series of interviews with PEOPLE, the duchess's friends describe her as "utterly remorseful and regretful" and "very, very fragile" since the scandal broke.

Ingrid Seward, editor in chief of Britain's Majesty magazine tells PEOPLE that she doubts Prince Andrew will throw his ex out of her house. "[That] will make everything worse," she says. "He is very much, 'She's the mother of my children. She can do no wrong; she never has done and never will do.' "

Meanwhile, for Fergie, life goes on. She appeared at a book trade show on Wednesday at New York's Javits Convention Center, where she emceed a breakfast.

Referring to her latest problems, the duchess invoked the words her grandmother once shared that had inspired her to found her charity, Children in Crisis.

"When you feel bad about yourself, give to others," she told the crowd. "[But] the bottom line is at the end of the day … I'm a children's book author; I'm Sarah Ferguson; I'm a mum – and I'm very, very proud of that."
