Andrea Correale, President of Elegant Affairs Caterers in New York, created some drink recipes inspired by the latest chapter, which finds the ladies decamping to Abu Dhabi for a Middle Eastern vacation. She also mixes up a play on their signature drink, the Cosmopolitan, called the Desert Sunrise. So, before you head to the multiplex, pick up a cocktail shaker and try these out.
Desert Sunrise
• 1 oz vodka• 5 oz orange juice
• 1 shot grenadine syrup
• marachino cherries
Directions: Mix chilled vodka and chilled orange juice in a champagne or high ball glass. Top with grenadine, garnish with cherry
The New Yorker
• 3 oz pepper vodka• 1/2 oz dry vermouth
• 1 tsp olive juice
• Gorgonzola stuffed Olives
Directions: Pour the pepper vodka, dry vermouth and olive juice into a cocktail shaker half-filled with cracked ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a clear lucite skewer stacked with two Gorgonzola stuffed olives
"The Abu Dabi"
(In Abu Dhabi, only restaurants located in hotels are permitted to serve alcoholic beverages. Therefore, Andrea also created a non-alcoholic "mocktail")• 1 cup fresh lemon juice
• 1 cup fresh orange juice
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 1/2 cups water
• 10 sprigs mint
• 1 2 liter bottle of ginger ale
• Spring Water
Directions: Place first five ingredients in a saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cover and remove from heat and let sit until cool. Strain entire blend. Cover and refrigerate.
To serve: Fill glasses or a pitcher with equal amounts of fruit juice, ginger ale and water. Add ice and serve.
