MIKE & MOLLY
This romantic comedy about a cop and a teacher who meet at Overeaters Anonymous has an irresistible asset: Melissa McCarthy (Jenny's cousin), who stole so many scenes on Gilmore Girls and Samantha Who? Yet she was so sweet about the theft, more as if she were getting her way at a sample sale using apologetic smiles. Look: I want her to be a star, okay?
The next Modern Family? Looks too nutty for that-think Postmodern Family. Lucas Neff is raising an infant daughter with the help of barely competent relatives. (At one point this was called Keep Hope Alive.) The preview clip included some fine, raucous slapstick.
No ORDINARY FAMILY
Julie Benz and Michael Chiklis in an adventure about parents and their two kids who develop superpowers. Conceptually, it suggests a live-action Incredibles-an intriguing entertainment for ordinary families.
