"Our son, Andrew, was a brilliant, caring man, whose loss we will mourn for the rest of our lives,” the TV newsman and his wife, Grace Anne Dorney Koppel, said in a statement Tuesday.
The New York Post reports that the young Koppel, who lived in Queens with his girlfriend and baby daughter, started drinking around noon at a Hell's Kitchen Bar and arrived at a Washington Heights apartment later that evening.
A 32-year-old waiter at the bar and a roommate put Koppel to bed after he complained of not feeling well. The waiter, noticing Koppel wasn't breathing, called 911.
Andrew was the third of Ted Koppel's four children with wife Grace Anne.
