Mad Men star January Jones, who plays Betty, the icy blonde (soon-to-be-ex) wife of Jon Hamm's Don Draper, was involved in a car collision in Los Angeles Thursday night, the LAPD confirms.

The actress, 32, was at the wheel of a Range Rover around 9 p.m. when she allegedly lost control and collided with several parked vehicles, resulting in major damage, according to TMZ.com. One witness tells police that Jones left the scene on foot, having said, "I can't deal with this commotion."

Jones returned later and said she had left the scene – and her license in the Range Rover – because she was being followed by paparazzi.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, a rep for Jones said, "While being followed by paparazzi, Ms. Jones struck two parked cars. She did not flee the scene; she left her license with a witness and walked to her nearby home to call the police. She immediately returned to the scene to speak with the police."

Police tell PEOPLE that the bombshell didn’t do anything illegal and is not being investigated. "No crime occurred here," LAPD officer April Harding says. "If this was a hit-and-run, Ms. Jones would have been arrested. She was being followed by paparazzi and hit two parked cars. She wasn't under the influence of anything. No one got hurt. That's pretty much it. There is no investigation."

Making the scene even more surreal was the appearance of celebrity chef Bobby Flay, who tells TMZ that he watched the Lakers/Celtics basketball game with a group of people that included Jones. The actress called Flay after the crash, and though he’d only just met her, he drove over to help her.
