Lady Gaga Makes History in New York City

Friday July 09, 2010 09:45 AM EDT

Neither rain nor shine will stop Lady Gaga fans.

The singer calls them her "Little Monsters," and they came in droves – more than 18,000, according to estimates – to see her perform Friday in Rockefeller Center for the Today show's Summer Concert Series.

And Gaga, 24, did not disappoint, singing for a full half hour for the record-breaking crowd despite the rain that turned the plaza into a steam bath.

Along with her hits "Bad Romance" and "Alejandro," the singer played a new tune, "You and I," which she wrote about "the most important person I've ever met," she said, referring to her former boyfriend, musician and bartender Luc Carl, with whom she recently reconciled.
