Authorities are certainly pleased to have finally nabbed fugitive Colton Harris-Moore – a.k.a, the Barefoot Bandit – following his alleged two-year, continent-wide crime spree. But no one is more relieved that his mother, Pamela Kohler.

"I am very relieved that Colt is now safe and that no one was hurt during his capture," Kohler, who lives in Camano Island, Wash., said in a statement issued through her lawyer.

Kohler said she has yet to speak with her 19-year-old son, who was arrested early Sunday morning in the Bahamas. "It has been over two and a half years since I have seen him, and I miss him terribly," she said. "I hope that it will be possible for me to see him sometime soon."

Moore has been on the lam since 2008 when he broke out of a juvenile detention facility in Washington state. He is alleged to have stolen cars, boats and planes since then, often without shoes – becoming a folk hero of sorts to a sizeable cult following online.

Authorities believe Moore committed as many as 100 crimes in eight states and one Canadian province.
