"It's part of life," says the 2005 Idol alum, as he walked the red carpet Sunday at CC Sabathia's 30th birthday party at New York's 40/40 Club with his girlfriend (and mother of his baby-to-be), Angel Reed – whom Maroulis met last year while the two were starring in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages.
In preparation for his paternal duties, the Brooklyn-born singer, 34, says he's "just living every day right now, trying to do good work and provide for family long term – so I'm looking forward to the road ahead, definitely."
Besides meeting Reed, there are other perks to starring in a Broadway show: "A lot of Yank[ee]s are big fans of our show," says Maroulis. "We had A-Rod there."
Reed, who has been part of the Rock of Ages ensemble since its 2008 pre-Broadway runs in Las Vegas and off-Broadway, reportedly gave her notice after becoming pregnant.
Meanwhile, Maroulis – who's still rockin' in the show at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre – is scheduled to reprise his Tony-nominated role as rocker Drew in the show’s national tour, which opens in Chicago Sept. 21.
