They may both star on AMC's two most admired series – Mad Men and Breaking Bad – but when it comes to who'll win the Emmy for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series, Mad Men star Jon Hamm isn't planning to play it as cool as would his existential TV persona, Don Draper.

In fact, handsome Hamm told PEOPLE at Mad Men's season 4 premiere in Hollywood Tuesday night, he and Fox's House star Hugh Laurie have a plan of attack should Breaking Bad leading man Bryan Cranston again cop the Best Actor Emmy.

"Hugh and I have a feeling that we're going to get together after this year's Emmys and just beat the s--- out of Bryan Cranston," says Hamm, 39. "That's what is going to happen, and we'll just distract him somehow, because he's very fit."

Come the Aug. 29 ceremony, Hamm promises, "Both Hugh and I are very, very creative and very intelligent, so we will come up with some way to do that that will be untraceable to us ... although my saying it out loud to the press may have ruined our plan."

While Hamm may have yet to snag an Emmy, his show has been far from lacking in the awards department. So far, it has collected nine Emmys and five Golden Globes – and is the first basic cable series to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, a feat it pulled off in 2008 and 2009.

Asked to name his favorite Emmy moment, Hamm cites "the first time we won the Emmy, it was so unexpected for us, and so surprising, and shocking, and thrilling, and so difficult to process, really."

As he recalls, "It was right at the end of the [Emmy telecast], and they were horribly over time, and everyone wants you to get up and get off, and we were just wandering around like school kids, and it was tremendously exciting for all of us."
