So how exactly has Lindsay Lohan, 24, been spending her time in jail? Here's a day-by-day breakdown into her time behind bars and a sneak peak into Lohan's new world.
Tuesday, July 20: Checking in, getting situated and a teary first phone call
Lohan enters Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., which is on lockdown, around 10 a.m., where she goes through a routine strip search. Shortly thereafter, she's issued an orange jumpsuit, sheets and towels and heads up to her single cell. At 11 a.m. she gets permission to enter the recreation room to make a phone call, which lasts an hour, and leaves Lohan in tears, a source inside the jail tells PEOPLE. Lunch: bologna sandwich, bag of Fritos, packets of mustard and mayo and orange juice. Dinner: mac and cheese, broccoli, cabbage, milk and two slices of bread.
Wednesday, July 21: Fish kit and first shower
The actress starts off her day with a chocolate muffin, cereal, apple and milk, although lunch is the same as Tuesday's. At 3 p.m. Lohan is prepared an indigent kit – also called a "fish kit" because new inmates are called "fishes" – so she can take a shower, according to the jail source. Her bag of toiletries comes with two shampoo packets, a 4-inch toothbrush, a bar of soap and a small tube of toothpaste. Mom Dina and sister Ali pay a visit for about 30 minutes with the actress's business manager. Dinner consists of a burrito, beans, salad, milk, peaches and bread.
Thursday, July 22: Smiling and waving to fellow inmates
Another cold breakfast (this time it includes a donut) and another lunch of bologna sandwich for Lohan. Inmates in a hallway notice her through a glass window as she's being transported and call out her name and wave to her. She cracks a smile and waves back. Another visitor, ex Samantha Ronson, in the afternoon also brightens up her day.
Friday, July 23: Doctor jail call and Hemingway
After breakfast, Lohan is escorted to the laundry room and given a new set of shoes, bedding and jumpsuit. Another bologna sandwich for lunch. At 12:30 p.m. Lohan gets a visit from her personal doctor, says the source. Another way to pass time: Reading. Lohan's copy of Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea was apparently confiscated when she was processed so the jail's librarian brings her a different book by the famed American author, says the source. Dinner: "scary-yaki," dehydrated tofu that floats in a teriyaki sauce, salad, bread, fruit and milk.
Saturday, July 24: Trying her best to adjust
After apparently sleeping in until 8 a.m., Lohan, her hair tied up in a ponytail and clutching a blue-colored Bible, leaves her cell at 9:45 a.m. to go to the visiting area for a meeting with her lawyer. "She's trying to make the best of her stay," says the source who saw Lohan, but "you can see the brown roots of her hair already and she also has really dark circles under her eyes." Lunch is another bologna sandwich followed by hotdogs, barbecue beans, salad and milk for dinner.
