Has Jersey Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi been scared straight?

The reality star is downplaying her recent arrest for disorderly conduct after a day of drinking, but admits the incident – and especially her father's reaction – has caused her to dial back her alcohol consumption.

"I didn't hurt anybody – stuff like that happens in Jersey," she told reporters in L.A. during an MTV press event promoting her show on Friday. "I was in the drunk tank for a little bit, I had too many tequilas. What are you gonna do?"

After the presentation, however, she was more candid about the fallout. "My dad was very, very pissed," she revealed. "He's like, 'I didn't raise you like this.' I just felt really bad, so I'm definitely going to stop drinking during the daytime. And now when I go out, I only have a couple drinks."

The TV personality known for her wild antics now says, "I learned that I need to calm down with drinking."

She admitted she'd been drinking since about noon on the day of her arrest, which took place around 3:30 p.m. "It was a good wakeup call for me," she said. "It definitely embarrassed my family and that's just not good."

Snooki also revealed that she doesn't really remember most of her arrest experience. "But when I did remember and I woke up in the drunk tank, I was like, 'Alright, I must have drank way too many cocktails,' " she said.

Looking ahead, she is nervous about her court appearance scheduled for Aug. 18. "I'm scared to go because I feel like a criminal," she said. "I'm not a criminal. It's just a drunken mistake."

"Obviously I like to party," she added. "I like to have a good time but maybe I'm overdoing it a little too much. So right now I'm just watching myself and I can have a good time not drinking."

And the reality star is hoping young fans aren't modeling their behavior on her own. "When I see 7-year-olds, they're like, 'Oh, I envy you.' I'm like, 'Why? You're seeing me party,' " she said. " 'That's not something you should envy.' "
