The Sum 41 rocker, whose ex Avril Lavigne filed for divorce last year, was apparently attacked at a bar in Japan Thursday and sent to the hospital.
A message, posted early Friday morning, on the band's Facebook fan page says, "It is unfortunate to say, but Deryck Whibley is still in the hospital. He was attacked late last night in Japan. We are waiting for results and we are hoping for the best. Thanks for your support."
Three men attacked Whibley in a bar and police in Japan, where the band is playing the Summer Sonic rock festival, are investigating the incident, according to EOnline.com.
Late Friday, the band posted an update, saying, "After an MRI scan, it appears Deryck has slipped a disc in his back once again. Despite doctor's instructions, he has decided to play today's show at Summersonic regardless."
Just last week, the band announced canceled tour dates after Whibley came down with bronchitis.
