Mara, who previously appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street and will next be seen in The Social Network with Justin Timberlake, will star alongside Daniel Craig in the film set to be released Dec. 21, 2011, Columbia Pictures announced Monday.
Robin Wright has reportedly been in talks to play Erika Berger, the lover of Craig's character, Mikael Blomkvist.
David Fincher will direct the film, which begins shooting next month in Sweden.
