FROM GOOD TO GREAT
Julianna Margulies may be a favorite to win Best Actress in a Drama for The Good Wife, but she doesn't understand why. "It's such an odd thing-how can you compare the different roles? We're such different beasts!" says the actress, 44, who won for ER in 1995. That's not to say that Margulies, who is raising son Kieran, 2, with husband Keith Lieberthal, isn't excited about the prospect of victory. "I got everything I ever wanted from this show: a great role, great writing, a fabulous cast, and I get to stay home with my family because we shoot in N.Y.C.," she says. "And to have it be my second time around, it's that much sweeter."

A DAY WITH MY EMMYS
The comedian, a two-time winner, takes her 'girls,' Emmy and Emily, practically everywhere.
"The girls do a lot of juicing to keep their figures. But they do have a little coffee to start their day because they are so busy."
"I have a bit of a cold heart because I'm so competitive. Sometimes I actually have to get in my Jacuzzi-in my best gown, with my Emmys-to warm up."
"Having a little me time with the girls. They can keep the table from blowing over if it's a windy day or act as a paperweight to mark my favorite page of People magazine."
"Off to Chelsea Lately! Human passengers have to sit in the back seat because Emmy and Emily get the front with Mrs. Kathy."
3 (MORE) REASONS TO LOVE...
The movie star will return to his TV roots when he's honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
1. He's a good sport.
Clooney tried out for the Cincinnati Reds but didn't survive the first round of cuts.
2. He's a good friend.
Though he's pals with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, his real buddies go way back: "Nine guys for 25 years-they're the guys I see every Sunday."
3. He's a good tipper.
When some kids set up a lemonade stand near Clooney's film set, he paid for his 25-cent cup with a $20 bill-and let the kids keep the change.
MY CHILDHOOD FANTASY:
Someday I will host the Emmy Awards
Written by James Thomas
Fallon, age 11
I will be asked to host the Emmys as a result of my winning a record 30 Emmy awards. Some will be for acting. Others will be for best onscreen martial arts kicks and for my documentaries on volcanoes. I will never win an Emmy for best makeup, for that Emmy will go to Meghan McCoy, who by then will totally be my girlfriend. When I enter the Emmys as host, I will be on a chariot pulled by Mr. T and Sylvester Stallone together. Then I will sing a song I wrote that I asked Paul McCartney to cowrite with me. Except when he heard it, he said, "You can't improve on perfection." I will only win about half the awards, to be fair to everyone else. When it's over I will leave in a jet plane that I fly myself. The End.
John Sherman, of cast hangout Boudoir, has a refreshing take on the classic cocktail
• 4 slices cucumber
• 1 wedge lemon
• ½ oz. simple syrup
• ½ oz. lime juice
• 1½ oz. Plymouth gin
• Club soda
Muddle cucumber and lemon. Add next 3 ingredients. Shake, then add soda and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a cucumber wheel.
HOW WE'RE GETTING READY
THE SEXY STAR OF MODERN FAMILY SHARES HER STYLE SECRETS
Most people would agree that Sofia Vergara's curvaceous body is a thing of beauty, but red carpet couture has always been a struggle for the Colombian-born actress, 38. "The sample dresses they lend to actresses are usually a size 0 or 2," she says with a laugh. "I don't fit any of that!" But things are looking up for Vergara now that she's a first-time Emmy nominee for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on ABC's hit Modern Family. With designers willing to customize gowns for her, "now I have options." Her only rule is that everything fit impeccably. "If the boobs are not going to be in a good position all night, I don't risk it. It's torture!" So is spending hours in hair and makeup: "I don't take long to get ready. We work fast so it doesn't have to be a torturous three hours. We do it in an hour."
"It's a process: a lot of dress trying on. I'm wearing a bathing suit this year. And a headdress. And I'm not waxing."
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
"I'm trying to get in really good shape and find a dress that I'm comfortable in so I can be really zen that night!"
"I think I need to talk to that guy from Men's Wearhouse. He guarantees I'll look good, right? And get a low price?"
"I plan on making demands. I want some exotic animals in my trailer at all times. What's endangered? I'd love a panda!"
