The pair's truce proved short-lived, however, when both Bryan and Will went after the lead role of Jean Valjean in a local production of Les Miserables, and were forced to audition as a pair. Joining forces on Aerosmith's "Dream On", the battling boys rocked the house in a high-energy sing-off that fans of Harris's How I Met Your Mother role would have certainly deemed "legendary."
Elsewhere, viewers learned what many had suspected all along -- guest star Idina Menzel's Shelby Corcoran proved to be Rachel's biological mom!
The Vocal Adrenaline coach revealed she had agreed to be a surrogate in exchange for enough money to move to New York, but had always regretted giving up her baby. Having signed a contract that forbade her from contacting Rachel before the age of 18, Shelby turned to Jesse to woo the burgeoning diva and reunite the mother-daughter pair -- which he succeeded in doing after convincing Rachel to listen to a tape of her mother singing another Les Mis staple, "I Dreamed a Dream".
In the dream sequence that followed, fans got their first taste of a Rachel-Shelby duet, and can look forward to another one next week when the duo will tackle "Poker Face" in Glee's Lady Gaga-themed episode. --Kiran Hefa
