If you were holding out hope that former best friends Jill Zarin and Bethenny Frankel would finally make up after a rocky summer, Thursday's episode of The Real Housewives of New York City all but obliterated any possibility for a reconciliation.
In an emotional and highly charged phone call initiated by Bethenny, Jill laid down the law on speakerphone (as LuAnn de Lesseps listened in), chiding her former friend for her lack of support while her husband Bobby was hospitalized for thyroid cancer. Bethenny responded that she was busy writing another book but had sent flowers and e-mailed Jill, who ignored her. Jill countered that if she truly cared about their friendship, Bethenny would have called Bobby directly and showed some genuine concern. But Bethenny argued that she didn't know how serious things were since, according to her, Jill spent the summer throwing parties, attending events and blogging about her life.
In the end, Jill hung up on her costar -- and essentially closed the door on reconciliation. Bethenny compared the loss of the friendship to a death, and Jill looked pretty upset too.
Next week, it appears that Ramona will stir the pot by orchestrating a surprise run-in at her apartment to get the former friends to meet face-to-face. And from the looks of the promos, the meeting doesn't exactly go well. --Brian Orloff
