Grey’s: Unhappy Holidays from Seattle Grace!

Watching the docs of Grey's Anatomy navigate the emotional minefield of the winter holiday season probably made some folks at home feel better about their own dysfunctional families. And just in time for Thanksgiving! Thank goodness some lives were saved or all of this week's 'OMG' moments would have been downers. --Carrie Bell

Family Time: McSteamy found out he was a father when an 18-year-old girl named Sloan showed up. He let her move in, but didn't know how to relate to her. He felt old and guilty (he'd given a fling who got pregnant $200 and assumed she got an abortion), but after more than a month, Lexie threatened to withhold sex if he didn't "try to be her dad." When Sloan thought he was going to kick her out, she said, "I can tell you really don't like me and your girlfriend's freaked out because I'm hotter than her, but I'm pregnant ... I don't have anywhere else to go."

Pour Thing: The Chief bought Mer's silence about catching him off the wagon by mentoring her with private surgical lessons. He swore alcoholism was a misdiagnosis and blamed situational depression for his drinking. She took advantage of the special attention and forced him to make up with Derek. At the Christmas gathering, her dad, a fellow addict, realized what was going on and warned Mer that mixing surgery and liquor would have catastrophic consequences. She dodged, establishing that his abandonment occurred while sober. "Can't blame all the world's evils on alcohol," she said. But after getting called to Joe's bar to deal with her extremely intoxicated boss, it won't be easy to keep quiet much longer.

War Torn: Since her declaration of love, it's been very awkward between Hunt and Teddy. He caught her staring longingly at him and once Yang noticed him looking tenderly at her. When he confronted Teddy, angry that she never said anything, she said, "I have loved you every second of every day." Just when it looked like they were going to kiss, he confirmed that he once had feelings for her but was now in love with Yang, who told Hunt, "I don't want you to be with me because you feel you owe me." He shut her up with a kiss and said, "I want to because I love you."

Daddy's Little Girl: Bailey had kept her divorce a secret from her parents, but her pops popped in at Christmas and didn't take it well. "You work all day and go home alone to an empty house without even a tree," he said. "You've made a terrible mistake." Before heading to Mer's dinner, she completed a surgery she was quite proud of and wanted to share her accomplishment with friends. After he reprimanded her for mentioning bowels at the dinner table, she snapped back: "Staying in an unhappy marriage is not the kind of life I want to model for my child. You showed me what true love looks like so I chose not to settle and I'm happier for it. Part of my happiness is that I got to save a life today. That's God's work and that's enough for me." Amen!
