But it's guest star Kristin Chenoweth who helps this week's show, which is rather glass-half-empty in its themes, retain a certain brightness. First, it's always fun to see Chenoweth take on a wacky broad -- in this case, former glee-club star April Rhodes, now a blowsy alcoholic worthy of Josh Groban's affections. Then, it's just great to hear Chenoweth sing.
Among lots of musical highlights, one of the best was April Rhodes's split-screen diva-off with Rachel Berry interpreting Cabaret's "Maybe This Time." While one sings with hope in her voice, the other delivers with vengeance. --Cynthia Wang
