Tara’s Biggest Loser Blog: Trainers Are Cruel To Be Kind!
You asked, and I'll do my best to answer!

I have read most, if not all, your comments about last week and what I gathered is a lot of talk about Jillian’s yelling at Shay and whether this sort of thing is abusive and involves too much foul language -- or if it is tough love, boot-camp style.

In my experience, both, Jillian and Bob look at you for the person you are. They see the fat but don't pass any judgments. This immediately allows you to form a strong connection with them and when you are on that Ranch, Bob and Jillian are your EVERYTHING! Both trainers have an excellent read on and they know how to pull things out -- even if you don’t want them to be pulled out!

Trust me, there is a method to Jillian's madness. From the contestant’s point of view, you wake up and normally get in two hours of exercise before you see your trainers, then you have a solid two or three hours with them and at the same time you are getting pulled for interviews. By this point, you are most likely cranky, sore, hungry, tired and just agitated. Now try picturing having a camera guy or gal in your face as you are throwing up and Jillian or Bob telling you to suck it up and push through another rep! At some point you will break and when it happens, it’s hard to deal with your emotions while on camera. It truly is a strange feeling. Shay went through this in episode 1, but the best part is she realized it and went back into the gym. That is hard to do and it shows how truly strong of a person she is.

When you get on that Ranch, you no longer have problems -- you are in a bubble and everything that was troublesome to you is put on Jillian's shoulders, so you can actually focus on you. Jillian is a true believer in the fact that we (the contestants) gained weight for a reason that we are not willing (or we are afraid) to face. So through the process with Jillian, I realized that my personal failing was my own lack of self-confidence and feeling like I didn’t deserve anything good. Now, I recognize that I don’t want to let down (this is one of my good qualities), but I know that for me to be truly happy I need to continue to strive for my own dream.

The trainers do spend a lot of time with us to help us. During this episode, you do get a small glimpse into this. When Jillian and Bob broke the contestants up into two groups, she was going over nutrition and Bob was doing circuits. That would be a typical day!

You also witnessed a true moment this episode when Shay started crying to Bob during the last-chance workout. Her breakdown of emotion came pouring out because they have reached a certain comfort level. Now that the gate has been open, I feel that Shay will be able to truly find the happiness that she so deserves!

In this episode, no one goes home ... I love it and am happy that all contestants got another week, but it really leaves me wondering -- why? Something is up. Don’t know what it is but I think we will see some type of twist since no one went home this week. On an ending note, I adore Curtis Stone(pictured) -- he is such an amazing chef and is completely considerate when preparing meals for calorie conscious . He also makes an amazing hummus! =) --Tara
