Ashley Hamilton’s DWTS Blog: Rehearsing Is Like Prom
To the fans of DWTS,
I was asked to write a blog for PEOPLE.com. I'm Ashley Hamilton. At this point you may be asking yourself, 'Who is she?' I'm not a she. Actually, I'm a he (some may beg to differ). It's okay, I'm the only contestant whose partner is more famous than them.
These are the first weeks of rehearsal. If I danced any longer than I did today, I probably wouldn't have the energy to pick up this pen and write this ... Actually, I am on my Blackberry in my car in an alley -- I know that sounds creepy -- but I am about to get up on stage at The Laugh Factory.
Back to the dancing ... Rehearsals have been a lot like my prom: I sit against the wall and hope that no one will ask me to dance. I was such a bad dancer in school that I got kicked out of the town from Footloose. I have been asked how much I practice every week but I'm not sure, really -- usually, I pass out two hours into rehearsal. I get asked a second question; but due to exhaustion, I can never remember the it.
This season of DWTS is going to be the biggest ever and I'm not just talking about he cast. The first show will be two dances -- one partner and one relay. There are some big family rivalries as well: the Osbournes, the Osmonds, and the Hamiltons. Kelly Osbourne's dad is known for biting the head off of a bat. My dad bit the head off of a shrimp once. And don't count out Donny Osmond. I heard last week he bit the head off of a chocolate Easter Bunny.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime for me and if I don't drop dead during the rehearsals, it will be such an amazing time.
It gives me deep satisfaction to be able to share this journey with you. Stay tuned for more inside scoop.
Much love, Ashley H. Craig Sjodin/ABC
