America’s Got Talent: Piano Man Jeffrey Ou Makes the Cut
If Tuesday’s show was all about the stiff competition, Wednesday's results were all about surprise. And the biggest shocker of the night may well have been Jeffrey Ou, the young pianist from Texas, who stunningly advanced after half of his musical act was cut out when a wire was accidentally pulled by a dancer during his performance (That's live TV, folks!). Nick Cannon announced the expectation was to judge Ou on the first half of his performance, which didn't really warrant a spot in the winner's circle.

Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, how Ou got past the dynamic Bri -- the 17-year-old singer judge Piers Morgan called another Katy Perry -- was a mystery. Outspoken Sharon Osbourne was speechless. Bri generously gave Ou a congratulatory hug as conspiracy theorists started to contemplate.

The best chance from here on out goes to Mario and Jenny, who have the purest Vegas-style variety act of the new batch of quarter-finalists. While their carnival-esque volume and aggressiveness may not be a match made in heaven for all viewers, their sheer tenacity and technical proficiency give them an advantage.

Audience favorite goes to Lawrence Beaman. He may have started off on unevenly with "Old Man River," but Beaman is developing into an exciting sultry pop act that Morgan compared to singer Barry White. Hairo Torres is another exciting and plucky fan favorite. His creative contortionist break-dancing was delivered with an earnest dedication to entertainment. He could be another surprise. --Nicholas White
