The Hills Recap: Spencer Rocks Heidi’s World

05/19/2009 at 12:00 AM EDT

It was a productive week for the Pratts on The Hills. Spencer dealt with daddy issues and proposed to Heidi … again, Stephanie was terminated by Lauren, then she went on a bad double date with Audrina.

The Cowboy Way: Spencer became the first boyfriend to meet Heidi’s father Bill, a real-deal cowboy. She prepped him saying dad was always more scary than mom and that he’d freaked about them getting hitched in Mexico without seeking his permission. Dad didn’t make things easier when he mentioned he’d brought his shotgun, but eventually he and Spence hit it off. (The guy even made a justification for Spence’s bar brawl.) The two walked along the beach discussing Spence’s intentions, which Spence admitted were to live happily ever after with his daughter. Bill warned, “You would be the loser if you lost Heidi.” Another Time Around: Spence took Heidi up in the Ferris wheel to tell her the good news about Bill’s blessing and suggested they try betrothal once again. Heidi worried, “Marriage made everything worse.” Spence disagreed, “I’m happy with our progress. Getting married will make it so much better and stronger.” She reminded him there was much to do before it could happen (i.e. apologize to mom; work it out with Lauren) and reiterated that she wanted a “princess wedding.” He swore he knew the rules and was ready to do everything she needed. When he whipped out a giant diamond, her worries melted away. “This makes up for a lot,” she said.

The Band Plays On: Audrina reunited with the White Tie Affair on their video shoot set and Steph, who had previously hit it off with the guitarist last time Aud had to work their show, rolled up reeking of desperation as always. The duo met up with the singer and the guitarist at the Big foot Lodge for drinks, and the boys immediately started asking if the girls had room to stay at their respective places. When Aud stepped away with the singer, the guitarist started inquiring about Steph's relationship status. When she asked about his love life, he gave her the old “whatever happens on the road” cliché even though he had something solid at home. Steph accused him of flirting too much for someone who was taken and told Aud they needed to bail the minute she returned to the table. To her credit, she did not go groupie and to Aud’s credit, she supported her friend’s request even though she had no idea what happened.

Fired Up: Over dinner at STK, Lauren told Brody she had to fire Steph. He gave her an “I told you so” and bet the firing would ruin their friendship. LC wo-manned up and delivered the blow, fittingly after Steph arrived at work late, explaining that Kelly knew about her shoot screw-up and felt she didn’t have time to train her presently. She backtracked a little when she offered to help Steph find another job. Steph teared up and packed her things. “Is this like being fired even though I’m just interning,” Steph asked. Steph then ran to Heidi to whine about losing her job and the guitarist (which Heidi seemed to find more offensive). Heidi was sympathetic but couldn’t contain her joy over having her “first good week in months.” Lo reminded LC that Steph “put her in a bad situation and she did what she had to do.” Both girls separately worried about the effect it would have on their friendship. – Carrie Bell
