Injured Steve-O Sits Out of Monday’s Dancing
This was no stunt: Steve-O sat out Monday's Dancing with the Stars performance show after suffering a back injury during dress rehearsal with his partner Lacey Schwimmer.
Host Tom Bergeron explained that during dress rehearsal the Jackass star "landed on his mic pack" while doing a front flip.
"As a precaution," Bergeron explained, "he went to the hospital to get checked out and he hopes to be back next week."
The early prognosis is hopeful. Schwimmer told co-host Samantha Harris backstage that she had heard from the hospital and "nothing is broken, so that is amazing." Steve-O and Schwimmer were set to perform the salsa on Monday's show. During the pair's rehearsal, Steve-O indicated he was going to perform a daredevil move that was "going to make television history." Those proved to fateful words.
The duo never made it onto the parquet: hours before Monday's show, Steve-O injured his already ailing back by performing that risky move during his dress rehearsal.
But the show did go on, and the audience was informed that the judges would instead score Schwimmer and Steve-O's dress rehearsal performance.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the judges heaped insult upon injury.
"I didn't get it as a performance at all," head judge Len Goodman said after watching Steve-O and Schwimmer's dress rehearsal performance segment. Fellow judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli agreed, with Tonioli asking, "Where is the salsa?"
The duo received a 14 out of 30 for their salsa, giving them a combined total of 31 out of 60 after adding their scores for last week's waltz.
