When Erin's guitar-strumming man from Toronto Duncan came to visit and said the L-word over martinis, Whitney decided it was time for two things: to find her own place and to find out where she stands with Jay.
Jay was willing to help her out with the first item of business, showing Whitney an amazing, high-rise apartment in Manhattan's Gramercy neighborhood. Even though she imagined herself living in "one of those shorter brick buildings," Whitney decided to take it when Jay told her, "it's a great place, babe."
This didn't please Olivia, who had offered to help Whitney look for her first New York apartment and warned her about taking the first one she saw and "relying too much on Jay."
While helping Whitney move into her (suddenly painted) apartment, Jay and Erin discussed her use of the L-word with Duncan. Jay worried about "throwing that word around to quickly and too easily." Later, during a walk in the park, Whitney told Erin she wanted to talk to Jay to "see where we stand."
During dinner at Stanton Social, Jay told Whitney he doesn't want to see other but he doesn't want to be her boyfriend. "What's the rush?" he asked her. "There is none," she replied.
"I just don't want to feel like it's all about the relationship," Jay told her. Whitney had no choice but to say that she didn't want to come last on his list of priorities. With that, he said he wanted to get to know her better and then declared they're on the "same page."
