Gossip Girl Recap: Blair & Chuck’s Dirty Game
Charmed Upper East Siders are happy to do their part by sitting on the board of a charitable organization -- as long as it benefits children or fights disease. So, when Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szhor) turns to Blair Waldrof (Leighton Meester) to h elp her save a bar in Brooklym, Blair declines because the cause won't help her get into Yale. But a determined Vanessa decides to blackmail Blair into doing the good deed with a picture of former flame Marcus hooking up his -- gasp! -- stepmom. Not one to be pushed around, Blair turns to former lover Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) to help her destroy Vanessa. Terms of the deal: If Chuck succeeds in humiliating Vanessa, Blair will sleep with him. But the plan hits a snag when Chuck finds he actually cares for the bar and maybe even for Vanessa. Blair immediately calls it off and lets Chuck win. But when Chuck comes to collect, he tells a La Perla-clad Blair that its time to chase him. Something tells us that Chuck won't be an easy pursuit.
Quick question: First Nate Archibald (Chase Crawford), now Chuck Bass. Isn't Vanessa sick of going for Blair's sloppy seconds?
The merging of the houses of Bass and Van der Woodsen gets off to a rocky start when Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Bass (Robert John Burke) decide to actually be parents their rebellious teens and set some household rules. Curfews and family dinners might work over in Brooklyn, but not on the Upper East Side. Serena Van der Woodsen's (Blake Lively) inner bad girl comes out when she dons a sexy orange halter dress and heads for a night on the town without underwear. But that's not all. Serena takes it up a notch by impressing reporters at her mother's house warming party with a colorful tale of Christmas past. Surprisingly, Bass shows his stepchildren some compassion -- too bad he can't do the same for his son.
After a weekend together at Yale, it looks like Nate Archibald and Dan Humphrey's (Penn Badgley) are officially in a bromantic relationship. From chatting on the phone -- Did Dan actually say it "Love it?" -- to playing soccer to taking a stroll through Central Park, Dan and Nate are doing everything together. But Nate isn't ready to let Dan in his on secret, until Dan stumbles upon the sleeping bag and eviction letters at Nate's townhouse. Soon enough, Nate is crossing the bridge to join the Humphrey's in Brooklyn.
We love: Eric van der Woodsen's (Conner Paolo) new boyfriend! Hopefully, there will be more on their budding relationship. -- Andrea DeSimone
