Dancing With the Stars season six finalist Cristian de la Fuente is recuperating nicely after undergoing surgery Friday morning, Dr. Neal S. Elattrache tells PEOPLE. The actor injured the tendon in his left arm while performing the samba on April 28.
"I was able to get a perfect repair of the bicep. Cristian will spend about a week in a splint, then start rehab," Dr. Elattrache says. In three months, "He will have a full recovery and full strength back."
"Thank you to everyone for their concern and well wishes," de la Fuente said in a statement to PEOPLE. The 34-year-old actor, who stars in the upcoming USA Network series In Plain Sight (June 1), is recuperating at home in Los Angeles with his wife, Angelica, and daughter Laura. --Monica RizzoBOB D'AMICO/ABC
