American Idol winner Jordin Sparks has bowed out of kicking off America's largest Earth Day celebration on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Sunday due to an illness, a source tells PEOPLE.

The sultry Sparks was set to perform the National Anthem at the third annual Green Apple Festival with Earth Day Network, but Idol's Blake Lewis will instead kick off the day with his rendition of the song. “Blake's planning a cool version of 'America the Beautiful' that will incorporate his own beat boxing and vocal scratching into the mix,” says an insider.

Adds a source: "Blake is excited."

Eight simultaneous music festivals are taking place on Earth Day in major parks in D.C., N.Y.C., Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Among those performing are The Neville Brothers, Ricky Skaggs, Menudo, Arrested Development, Ziggy Marley, members of The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and even Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. -- K.C.
