Idol: Alaina’s Shocking Elimination Leaves Her in Tears

Alaina Whitaker's ouster from Idol was the most shocking moment from this week's elimination night. It wasn't just the fact that it seemed certain that Kady Malloy would be sent home instead of Whitaker, but also because the 16-year-old from Tulsa, Okla., broke down in tears and told Ryan Seacrest, "I can’t sing," referring to the Idol tradition that has departing contestants take the stage for a final performance of the song that got them eliminated.

"I'm so embarrassed," she said through tears.

Seacrest gave her the option to skip her final number, but after some kind words of encouragement from the host, Alaina rallied and, with the support of her fellow female contestants, sang "Hopelessly Devoted To You" for her American Idol swan song.

Tell us: Did you feel bad for Alaina? Should eliminated contestants have to perform a final song?
