After disappointing their first week on the Idol stage, Chikezie and David Hernandez came roaring back on Tuesday's show.
David Archuleta wasn't the only David to impress the judges. Instead of revealing that he used to compete in gymnastics in his video introduction, Hernandez could have said, "Something don't know about me is that I'm about to rock out with 'Papa Was a Rolling Stone.'" Seriously, the Arizona native thrilled the judges when he showed serious soul in an impressive performance. "This is the David Hernandez we fell in love with. That was hot," Randy Jackson said. The impossible-to-please Simon Cowell even told him it was the best vocal of the night, so far.
Archuleta may have trumped them both with his standout performance, but Chikezie certainly bounced back with a fun and playful performance of "I Believe to My Soul." He also dressed much better, albeit more casually, in jeans and a blue polo with a green collar popping out, rather than the big red suit that earned him taunts from Cowell last week. Jackson declared, "Chikezie is back," while Paula Abdul said he was "brilliant." Cowell told him he was "a million times better" than last week.
