The 10 remaining guys performed on the Idol stage Tuesday, and, while a number of them sang well enough to get good marks from the judges, one shined much brighter than the rest. Seventeen-year-old David Archuleta, who was the last of the night to perform, sang John Lennon's "Imagine" and heard this from the judges:
Randy Jackson said:
"That's one of the best vocals I've ever heard on this show." "All you can say is you were born to do exactly what you're doing." "That was brilliant."
Paula Abdul said:
"I want to squish you, squeeze your head off and dangle you from my rearview mirror." "That was . . . one of the most moving performances I've ever heard." "You're destined for super stardom."
Simon Cowell said:
"Very, very risky to do a John Lennon song, particularly that one, but it worked." "There are 19 very miserable contestants sitting here tonight. Trust me." "You're the one to beat."
David A. wasn't the only contestant to perform well. Michael Johns, David Hernandez, Chikezie and David Cook all heard positive feedback from the judges -- just not as much as much as the final contestant.
Tell us: Is Simon right to say that David Archuleta is the one to beat?Fox
