Grey’s Anatomy: A Family Affair
So, about that Lexie Grey . . . Though she helped George get over himself and his annoying self-pity in the GA season premiere Thursday night, she didn't get the reaction she was hoping for from half-sis Meredith. But could that have had something to do with the way she introduced herself?
There's a great Cosby Show episode where college student Vanessa springs her much older, secret fiancé on the fam, and Cliff and Claire are less than thrilled to meet him. Why? As Cliff points out, even a nice, juicy steak looks bad if you serve it on a garbage can lid. In other words, it's all about the presentation, and that was part of the problem with Lexie's introduction to Meredith. Mer looked like a deer caught in the headlights (not unlike the real deer that Izzie was treating in that back of that truck, but we digress) when, with victims of a major car wreck being rushed into the ER, newbie intern Lexie thrusts herself in Mer's face and drops the bombshell that she's her sister.
Huh? Might there have been a better time for a family reunion? Like, say, a lunch break? An after-work drink? Or any other time when a man whose head was barely still attached to his body wasn't being rushed into surgery? Just a thought …
There's also that flirtation at the bar between Lexie and McDreamy from last season. The last thing MerDer fans want is yet another roadblock popping up on the good doctors' path to happiness, so Lexie had one strike against before her rather rude introduction to big sis.
Here's the question now: Is there anything Lexie can do not only to win over Meredith, but to win over Grey's fans? Or is the younger Grey lady doomed to go the way of TV characters like The Brady Bunch's Oliver, Lost's Paulo and Nikki and, well, Vanessa Huxtable's fiancé, cast additions who just never fit in the TV scenes into which they were dropped? –Kimberly Potts
