Rutgers Student's Family Hopes Tragedy Serves as a Call for Compassion
Tyler Clementi
Jane and Joe Clementi hope people learn from the tragic incident that centered around their son Tyler's suicide.

"Regardless of legal outcomes, our hope is that our family's personal tragedy will serve as a call for compassion, empathy and human dignity," Clementi's parents said in a statement.

The parents, who do not plan to speak about the matter any further at the moment, ask for privacy during this "painful time."

"Needless to say, public attention has been intense," the statement says. "The outpouring of emotion and support from our friends, community and family – and from people across the country – has been deeply moving. We thank each of your from the bottom of our hearts."

Investigation is still under way for Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei, the two Rutgers University students who allegedly secretly taped and Tweeted about 18-year-old Clementi in sexual acts with a male, leading Clementi to take his own life on Sept. 22. Funeral services for him will be private.
