TEEN MOM

Catelynn and Tyler were smart enough to realize they weren't ready to be the best parents"

Alexandra Twigg,

Regina, Saskatchewan

It's refreshing to see a young couple, like Teen Mom's Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, make a choice based on what's best for their child in a time when many teens choose to raise their babies without the proper resources. As a birth mother, I never thought the pain would go away, but it will subside, especially when the child is surrounded by love.

We have an open adoption [similar to Catelynn and Tyler's situation]. When adoption is handled with care and consideration, it doesn't have to mean closed doors. Carly is twice blessed with loving parents!

This young couple clearly made bad choices. The attention they receive just feeds into the glamorization of teen pregnancy in America. It sends a bad message to teens.

LISA NIEMI

My heart goes out to Lisa Niemi, Patrick Swayze's widow. It's hard to believe it's been a year since his death. What a wonderful marriage and what great memories for Lisa to have for the rest of her life. It was a touching tribute to Patrick.

After 18 years of marriage, I recently lost my husband to pancreatic cancer, just like Lisa Niemi. Her story was inspiring and gives me hope that I can work through the grief and sadness. I thank her for raising the awareness of pancreatic cancer and for her commitment to support research to fight it.

JESSE JAMES

I don't understand why Jesse James would move to Texas so his kids could be near Sandra Bullock. Now he's with a new woman, Kat Von D. When couples get divorced, I think they should make a clean break. It just doesn't seem fair to Sandra.

AMY YASBECK

Amy Yasbeck's story about her life after her husband John Ritter's tragic death reminded me of just how lucky my children and I are. My husband was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm, but he was treated for the heart condition in time. I cannot imagine the strength it took for Amy and her family to get through this tragedy.

MARK WAHLBERG

I'm an older New Kids on the Block fan. And I really like the Wahlberg brothers. So I screamed when I saw Mark Wahlberg and his chef brother Paul in your Great Ideas section. Kudos to PEOPLE for the Wahlberg recipe!

UPDATE JAYCEE DUGARD

Jaycee Dugard will reveal in a memoir to be published next year what happened during her 18 years in captivity at the hands of Phillip and Nancy Garrido, publisher Simon & Schuster announced Sept. 27. A company executive who has read parts of the manuscript said, "I was moved and inspired by the raw power of Jaycee Dugard's voice, her strength and her resilience." Jaycee, 30, recently celebrated the first anniversary of her and her two daughters' rescue. While a grand jury hears testimony against the Garridos, the Dugards have tried to return to a normal life, going camping and making runs to Subway and Walmart.

Correction

In our Sept. 20 issue, we incorrectly spelled the name of Julio Iglesias' daughter Chabeli in our story about the singer's wedding. We regret the error.
