Look out, Chris Martin. Someone else in the house can really sing.
Gwyneth Paltrow spent months immersing herself in the Nashville scene for her role as an alcoholic country star in Country Strong. And it seems to have paid off, as Paltrow hits it out of the park in this video for the upcoming film's title song.
It's a performance that wouldn't be out of place on CMT – or at Ryman Auditorium, for that matter.
Luckily, Paltrow, 38, was able to rely on husband Martin, 33, the Coldplay frontman, for some musical pointers. As she told Harper's Bazaar this past spring: "He was so helpful, so sweet and encouraging."
She even had to learn to play guitar from scratch. "I mean, it's embarrassing to be playing in front of your husband," she says, "especially when he's in one of the world's most successful bands."
The "Country Strong" single has been released to country radio. The movie will be out in limited release in the U.S. on Dec. 22, and in wide release on Jan. 7.
